I have a child who has NEVER asked to eat (now 4). And many meals she will eat nothing. She does not like sweets; to the extent that she "likes" anything, it is salty food. Sorry, but assuming that all kids want to eat too much and want desserts is false.

I think the best way to get children to eat healthily is to eat healthily yourself. Children will normally copy what you do and if they see you eating plenty of fruit and veg then they will often ant to eat it too. Make sure that you have your meals with them and then you can alll eat the same foods.
Also I think it helps if you let your children help prepare the food. By getting them involved in the cooking of the food they will feel that thy have achieved something and will want to eat what they have made.
