The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies For Hiding Healthy Foods In Kids’ Favorite Meals is a delightfully informative read with the author’s purpose to show parents how to incorporate ‘Super Foods’ into the diets of the pickiest eaters by sneaking foods that are good for them (usually on their yuck list) into the foods they love. The Sneaky Chef is packed full of nutritional information, recipes and handy tips throughout. You may be tempted to jump right to the recipes but it is important to read the book in it’s entirety to fully understand The Sneaky Chef strategy and to understand the importance of incorporating healthy foods into your child’s diet.

The first part of the book is a bit lengthy if you compare it to your typical recipe book. But don’t let that deter you, this is not simply a book of healthy recipe’s for children it is a concept. The nutritional information packed in the pages are of value to children and adults alike.

The information in this wonderful book is easy to comprehend and absorb. While the author definitely possesses the credentials of an expert on this topic, she uses a very light hearted approach in this book incorporating facts with a dash of parenting humor. I was very impressed with the approach in which Lapine speaks to the reader, as an expert and parent versus professional preaching.

After reading the book cover to cover I decided to put The Sneaky Chef to the test. I had some reservations whether this strategy would work for me. How time consuming would it be? Will it break the bank? Most importantly, will my picky eater fall for it? I tried a few of the recipes and found it required little time, no more time then it took me to prepare separate meals for my picky eater and the ingredient costs were indeed budget friendly. What is really good, the author includes short cut recommendations to save additional time and money. The best part of the whole testing phase was watching my picky eater devour these yummy food concoctions and being totally unaware of the sneaky ingredients. Lapine’s The Sneaky Chef gets a thumbs up from me. It is a must have for any parent wanting to improve their child’s diet and be rid of the mealtime battles.
