Many advertisers would have us believe that the best way to express love is with a large box of chocolates, a pair of expensive diamond earrings, or a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Others would recommend a candlelight dinner and a quiet evening together. Recently published was the results of a study by Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The results suggest a link between 9/11 and troubling behavior in preschoolers as well as the increased risk of troubling behavior in children who had been exposed to more then one traumatic incident. I found the findings interesting and it brings to light that even the youngest children are affected to some degree by traumatic incidents even if exposure is limited and we as parents think they are too young to be affected or understand. On the first day of school, within the first two minutes, I discuss this issue with the children. While most classrooms are based on fear, our classroom is based on trust. This Old House Has Children

My house is old, it creaks and moans like my aging body and aching bones. It needs new cabinets, flooring and paint. I could use a lift myself but you know I ain’t, because my house is like my soul, aged and accented by life’s toll. What seems not new to some who look is really just a sacred book.
